Ammonia Based Refrigeration System Energy Performance Analysis
As part of their energy reduction initiative, City of Burlington contracted Renteknik to analyze the Appleby Ice Centre’s existing 12 year old ammonia based Refrigeration System’s energy and operational performance. Energy
Performance Analysis identified excessive Compressor Short Cycling which is a major issue for any Compressor Belt Driven Refrigeration System. Recommended efficiency measures included optimization of the Control System to improve Supply Temperature and Compressor Short Cycling and reconnection of the nonoperational Heat Recovery Unit to gain more energy savings. Through non-capital adjustments alone, the Short Cycling issue was addressed and stable operation was achieved, resulting in Annual Energy Savings of 203,032 kWh which is an 18.1% reduction.
